Guest Keith F
the car is full of fluid. in the cold weather when you shift into drive or reverse it hesitates going into gear. once in gear its ok unless you stop with in 1 minute at stop sign. sometimes it seems like it goes into neutral.then back into gear by itself. after that it is fine.always shifts great from 1st to 3rd and into reverse after that. any ideas. thanks for any help! JACK M
Might be time to change out the filter and fluid.

joe_padavano
Might be time to change out the filter and fluid.X2. That is certainly the first thing to try, and in my experience, old fluid and clogged filters cause the symptoms you describe when the fluid is cold and thick. Once it warms up and thins out, it works acceptably. Note that your TH425 trans is simply the venerable TH400 RWD trans bent in a U shape. Most of the internal parts are common. Of course, the filter and pan gasket are unique to the TH425 FWD version.
