Car Geek
Hello,I want to replace the bushing and bolt that secures the intermediate steering arm to my '37 Special frame. The Master Chassis Book (1928-1953) indicate that the bushing is part number 1394339. I've found one vendor who might have one in stock but they have to search their warehouse. If I can't buy one I will have a bushing made but I can't find clearance specs anywhere. Are you aware of them? I've searched the Shop Manual and old Torque Tube magazines with no luck.Thanks!-Chris
MCHinson
Chris,I presume that this is the vendor who you have found that may have it is:http://www.nationalimpala.com/docs/ObsoleteChevroletParts.pdfI hope that you have better luck with them than I had and they actually have it. The one part that I was looking for previously that was on that list was no longer available. I have no idea of the specifications for that part but based on my experience, I would call Dave Tacheny. If anybody has a either a new one or a good used one I would expect it to be Dave.
Car Geek
Thanks for that link Matt. I did not know about them, I found the part at http://www.collectorsautosupply.com/. It appears that their website is down now - I hope that isn't a bad sign!!I've bought stuff through Dave Tacheny before, he is a great resource. I know, however, that his turnaround time is pretty long. If I knew the specs I could have one made in a day. Thanks again,-Chris
DonMicheletti
If you have to make a new bushing yourself, you wont go wrong with the old "rule of thumb", .001" clearance per inch of pin diameter. That is OK almost anywhere when you dont have an actual spec.
74 Apollo
There is a seller on e-bay selling the bushing and bolt. Search on Center Steering Idler Arm Kit 37 buick. Kind of expensive.
Car Geek
Yeah, I found the guy on Ebay but Collectors Auto can provide the same stuff for $40. Still pricey in my opinion but that is part of the fun I suppose.
