Introducing my 1954 Buick Century

Hi All,

In November, I bought a 1954 Buick Century Tourback 4-door sedan. Only 39,000 miles on it and it is pretty original. Painted once in original Casino Beige with a green interior. It has a little old lady provenance. I found it in Salisbury, MD and I live in Arlington, VA, so I drove it over the Chesapeake Bay bridge to home, 130 miles, without a problem. Thanks to all for posting good info on all little and big things that need attention when owing a 60-year old baby!

Sounds like an interesting one Kevin, my Granddad had the same car except in Willow Green with white roof. It's just broken in with that mileage. Do you have pics to share?

That is a cool Buick. I also learned how to drive on a 55 Special, before I had my permit though. Shortly before I did get my permit Dad sold both the 55 and his 60 Olds 98, and acquired a 65 Electra. I was so bummed cause I wanted to drive that stick shift car.

Oh my...... what a BEAUTIFUL BUY!!! I have always said Casino Beige so compliments the chrome on these 54's or maybe it's the other way around, but whatever...this is a prime example, I think everyone can see what I am talking about. And the Century's 4 doors have the bit of extra chrome on top and bottom of the windows the Specials don't have. And the center arm rest in the back seat, and the fold out instead of stationary rear vent window glass. But the best thing is the Roadmaster engine, complete with 4 bbl in that small series body. Bet that baby will SCAT won't it? What a great provenance too and low mileage original, JUST like I like them. Not many of these babies around sir, you did good. Thanks for sharing the story and look forward to seeing more of this beauty and helping with anything I can. In fact I would love to decipher the data plate for you if you want to ad a picture of it. Also, would you mind if I added the year to the title so folks will know what year Buick you are introducing. Always helps when anyone on the net is doing a search for 1954 Buicks too. Up to you though of course.

Thanks guys for the nice comments. When I drove out to first look at it, I said to myself, I am not going to buy this car! (Don't need, can't afford, etc.) Then I saw it and all that changed. Had to have it -- it had so much in its favor. Low mileage, almost all original, new tires (original tires were removed in 2014), new brakes, engine rebuilt 5,000 miles ago, great colors, etc. Mr Earl, I did not know some of those distinctions of the Century. Now, I can talk like I know something! Sure, you can put the year in the title of the thread, no problem. I will post a pic of the data plate from home. I love Buicks because of the many bold color combinations. Who would have thought a creamy beige would go nicely with a deep green interior. In fact the green interior makes the slightly tinted windows glow in a way that makes it very welcoming. Ya just want to get in it and go somewhere.

Unfortunately, the original spare was replaced with a brand new tire. Will post pic of the trunk when I can take one. Here is the data plate. I did not replace the tires last summer, was the previous owner. I think I would have kept them. And yes, the Nail Head V8 does scat, with a nice whiiirlll on acceleration.

What a beautiful Buick. Then again...I'm impartial. Welcome to the neighborhood, Kevin. I'm in Baltimore. Hope to see your Buick at a show in the area. Rockville MD hosts a show for cars like yours. Maybe you can attend next summer.

Chris,

Thanks - yours is a beauty too! Yes, I want to go to the Rockville show in June, so hope to see you there. I hope to have the horn working by then
