I have a non functioning remote trunk release in my 63 riviera. i haven't looked into it to any extent as yet but I'm assuming a broken cable. Is this a common problem? Any advise on where to look and how to fix would be appreciated.

Thanks, mine is located in the glove box. So much for my cable theory. I did notice a 1/4" rubber hose laying on the ground under the engine bay the other day and it sounds like that could be it. I coiled up the hose (I think it was coming through the fire wall) and stored it under the hood. I'll investigate further.

It doesn't take much 'suck' to make the trunk release work. You can easily check to see if it works. Two screws hold the vacuum can to the glove box frame. Take the can out, move the trunk lining material out of the way and get a short piece of vacuum hose. Connect the two and see if they work.

Hi Marcus,

I had the same issue. To add to Ed's reply, make sure the hose is connected at both the glove box end and trunk latch end, and if you need to replace the hose, use the same inside-diameter of hose to get a tight fit. Mine was disconnected at the glove box and after reattaching, it worked fine. Not much suction needed to release the trunk latch, and it works just as effectively as a cable or electronic release!
