Pete Phillips Posted November 21, 2014 Share Posted November 21, 2014 Working on a 1956 Special with power brakes. I know it's a one-year-only setup. How do I remove the brake pedal from the floor of the car so I can get access to the access plate bolts underneath the steering column floor cover? The shop manual is of no help. The horizontal pin turns but does not come out. Can't really hammer it out due to the steering column being in the way. I know everything has to come out through the interior of the car, but the brake pedal has to be removed first, to access the bolts on the access plate. Guest Koala Posted November 23, 2014 Share Posted November 23, 2014 Hi Pete, once you take the nut off the pin will come out. You can use a adjustable wrench on the end with the flats to give it a wiggle while applying a bit of leverage to the other end and it should come out quite easily. The brake pedal has nylon bushes.Also note that the pin is actually eccentric and is used to adjust the brake pedal and this is explained in the shop manual.Koala Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

It finally came out with a lot of coaxing and pressure applied with a couple pairs of locking pliers. Guess it was rusted in place.
