FOR SALE: 1967 Corvette Roadster

Recommended Posts

We all know that Corvettes have a special set of criteria that go above and beyond the usual condition and features. Fortunately, this 1967 Corvette roadster checks off all the important boxes: matching-numbers, 4-speed, 32,130 original miles, original interior, one repaint 20 years ago, and two owners from new. It's never been hit or wrecked, and obviously Corvettes don't rust, but even the underside, which does have parts that rust, isn't rusty. It has a known history from new and everything works but the clock. Nice, right?

It was repainted 25 years ago by the second owner shortly after he bought it and the color is perhaps 2-3 shades brighter than the original code 984 Sunfire Yellow, but it sure looks great on the mid-year's classic shape. The fiberglass was and is in great condition and it was stripped bare for the repaint, so there's no heavy layers of paint here. It's early 2-stage urethane so it has a great shine that's easy to maintain, and being 20 years old (OK, 18), it does show some signs of wear and tear but nothing major. There are a few chips on the nose, a larger one on the driver's door edge, and, well, that's about it. Gaps are excellent, which you'd expect on a factory car that's never been apart or hit, and there are no signs of the usual stress cracks around the headlight openings. The chrome is original and in good condition overall with no critical issues noted.

The white interior is 100% original, including seat covers, door panels, and even the carpets. Factory gauges are a little faded but I bet the lenses could be easily polished up for a brighter look and they're all fully functional but the clock, which isn't a surprise. The woodgrained steering wheel is excellent, the AM/FM radio works, the heat is nice and toasty (I took it for a drive yesterday when it was about 35 degrees), and much of the weather-stripping was just replaced, so it's quite tight and quiet inside, which is very un-Corvette-like. The black convertible top is brand new, replacing the original white one and I think the contrast is far superior and love the look.

The engine is the base 327 cubic inch V8, but I'd hardly call anything with 300 horsepower on tap basic and I have personally confirmed that it is the original, matching-numbers engine. With just over 32,000 miles, this one is barely broken in and it starts quickly, makes plenty of oil pressure, doesn't smoke, and drips less oil than almost everything else in the shop (they ALL leak, you know that). Routine maintenance items have been replaced over the years and with a fresh tune-up it runs superbly. It's quick to start, idles well even when it's cold, and it pulls well through all four gears. The Muncie 4-speed snaps through the gears like a bolt-action rifle and I believe it has 3.08 gears out back so it's a good highway cruiser (60 MPH = about 2800 RPM). The brakes were just serviced with new calipers, pads, and rotors and there are new shocks at all four corners. Factory Rally wheels are unmarked and wear new 15-inch Uniroyal radials all around.

This one gets all the important stuff right, it's a joy to drive, and have you priced a Mid-Year Corvette lately? It's a driver, yes, but it does everything well and its abilities are confidence-inspiring, so go have some fun. We're asking $59,900 and we're always open to reasonable offers. Thanks for looking!
