Hi Dave, nice to hear from you. The Clipper does not have overdrive nor does it have seat belts. However, with the 3.23:1 axle ratio it will cruise like it does have overdrive. Reducing the inventory to two cars, the 115C convertible and the Model A hot rod. Take care and stay warm. John

John, It is hard to think of old cars when there is snow on the ground and the thermometer at 0 but your Packard is such a lovely car it is hard not too. Yes a 3.23 axle would help with highway speed cruising. I imagine a standard shift is pretty rare on a 55 Packard. You have done a nice job of detailing e engine and trunk areas.

Just a bit of trivia info for your pleasure.

I have a customer that used to work for Packard here in Windsor, Ontario, Canada back in the 50's. Part of the work they did here according to him was changing out the standard transmissions to automatics when a customer ordered it, amongst other work. I know he said Packard sent him to school for his certificate training and also was at the Detroit Plant occasionally.

Here is one shot at the garage entrance he worked at.

One more with him driving two Beauty Contest winners on the Ambassador Bridge in a convert.

Interesting that a customer would want to go from a standard transmission to an automatic. This Clipper was changed from the Twin Ultramatic to a manual shift 3-speed. Also had the EasaMatic power brake changed to a regular master cylinder. No Torsion Level, no Twin Ultramatic, no EasaMatic, but a smooth riding and driving Packard with problem prone equipment eliminated.
