I have a 1934 desoto trans with freewheeling, it has me at a lose? it just fails to go forward in 2nd and 3rd,but shift pattern flipped? when shifter is in low the car goes in reverse, shift into reverse the car goes forward . also shifted into 2nd and 3rd it goes in reverse? i checked shift gate <is OK< I opened box and engaged gears by hand in all gears seams OK, is this a freewheeling gear failure,OR? cannot see how to dismantle free wheeling unit(not Overdrive, just freewheeling) if it failed ,would it reverse rotation/ need an old timer like me that may know?

Rear end upside down?
Common sense failed me , tried to reason it > scared to look> i had 3rd member out last year, but i don,t remember road testing it , so maybe you are right . thought it went in one way, so installing upside down is possible on 34 desoto? if you look rearwards toward differential ,which way should it rotate an ti clock or clock? or if you look forward at front u [joint which way should it turn/ thanks Edited by richard gray (see edit history)

Believe me....it's upside down.
I believe!!! looked at outside 3rd member casting,so it appears upside down, crown gear side will tell . tried to get info on rotation of pinion, looking backward, clockwise or anti clockwise to diagnose, but no info came. comes apart tomorrow. thanks Rick
