Beltfed Posted October 29, 2014 Share Posted October 29, 2014 The 1948 was the last year of the 'springer' and first year of the pan head. I owned one many years ago before a serious motorcycle wreck made me decide I needed more sheet metal around me. You will love the rod actuated brakes. Also the primary chain oiler which is controlled by a 1/4-24 thread pointed screw in the oil pump. A drip pan is good idea as the oil will never stop. And love the tank shifter with the toe/heel clutch which we called the 'widow maker'. Put your left foot on the ground at a stop light and interesting things will happen with all the vibrations the engine makes. Anyway, good luck.
