First car with horizontal grille opening - 1938 Lincoln Zephyr?

On another site, the 1938 Lincoln-Zephyr was being discussed as the first American car to feature a horizontal grille opening. This statement was challenged by someone who asked “what about the 1936 Cord”?

Would anyone here care to weigh in on this topic? I found one source touting the Lincoln as first in this category. The link below contains that source.

1936 Cord, horizontal grill, first production car with front- opening hood, no running boards, retractable headlights, unibody construction, disappearing top, front wheel drive, electro pneumatic preselect transmission, step down interior with no middle hump....a LOT of features that pre-date cars that would follow..
