Guest frcc16
I remember seeing these growing up and just realized that they are on my front brake drum of my 1950 Dodge! What purpose do these "wrap around" springs serve? They are seated in a groove on the outside of the front drum. And, if you needed to replace them, where would you go? Does anyone sell new ones? Thanks!Greg
Bhigdog
They suppress brake squeal. I've never seen new ones offered for sale but maybe some vendor does.................Bob

Rusty_OToole
Would a rubber bungee cord do the same thing? When I was turning brake drums we wrapped a rubber strap around them to stop chatter.
Bhigdog
I'm thinking chatter would damp out differently than squeal. Also rubber wouldn't do too well when the drum got hot .
