Brake drum removal..'39

i'm pretty sure the fine slot is for checking the linings with a feeler guage for wear...

the best way to remove drums is with a drum puller ..it clamps on the knob, and pushes on the axle

pops right off...but, I have also loosened the nut with tire on, car on ground, popped it into reverse

and removed them..early v-8 wheel puller is the ticket...or a slide hammer, which works..but is more violent

to the car and you

Mssr. Bwatoe is correct but I splurged and purchased the reproduction K.R. Wilson ABV-156 Rear Hub Puller and the hubs that had been on my Lincoln for over 60 years popped off. Keep in mind that the hubs take tremendous pressure to remove, be careful and use the correct puller. Good Luck. If you lived in Tucson I would be happy to loan you mine and, by the way, be sure and use the correct torque when installing them.
