All are either NOS or damn-near NOS old take offs that look new or very close. For the trunk, sides, or both (studs are different).I looked into this before I have the trunk emblem redone, but it was actually cheaper for me to have it redone to show quality. I also had perfect originals for the rear doors so I guess I got lucky.It is possible I run across another one at some point that I am compelled to use my stash of extra parts on, though. lancemb Posted May 30, 2015 Share Posted May 30, 2015 Well, I finally took the oil pan down to clean it out and glad I did because there was about 1/2" of sludge in the bottom, and the pickup screen was laying in the bottom of the pan. After getting it nice and clean I repainted the pan and reinstalled, along with a new filter and fresh oil!! I also removed the drums and had them checked and lightly machined as I was getting a pulsation. They were not out of round, but one of them had some grease in it which made have been causing intermittent grabbing. They should be good now, but I haven't had a chance to test drive it with the rain. Check out the pics of the drums inside; I don't think I remember seeing this on other ones, where there apparently were holes drilled into the steel insert, with the aluminum cast around it and into the holes. It looks really cool freshly machined! In not-as-great news, it looks like I won't be taking it to Springfield due to interference with a trip for my job, as well as the fact that I don't know if I will have to time to fix a brake booster issue that I don't feel comfortable with. lancemb Posted June 20, 2015 Share Posted June 20, 2015 Well, I didn't make it to the national meet as I was out of town all week and would have had to turn right around just to make it down there Friday night. That was pushing it for me since it is an 8+ hour drive, So, I thought it only make sense to use that time at home to work on Big Blue. I accessorized big time, with the main goal to install seat belts front and back so I could start bringing the kids along. I also used this opportunity to take a look at the front power seat which had not worked since I got the car out of storage, and had also always felt loose and rocked back and forth even though it was bolted tight. After removing the front seat I vacuumed it out and looked under the carpet hoping to find the build sheet, since the carpet is original but no luck. I also found four ball bearings, which I assumed had something to do with the wobbly front power seat. I felt like I earned a t-shirt that should read "I tore my interior apart and all I got were these stinking ball bearings"... Actually, I also found this cool tag under the rear seat, which shows that my car was a very late production model probably built weeks after the seat cushion was inspected on May 24, 1957 After turning the seat over, first I jumped some power to it and was happy to confirm that it did move! However, it was easy to see where the ball bearings came from. I am just lucky that (I think) they were all found by me! You can see here where there is residual lithium grease on the exposed rail, with the lower track flopping freely on the driver side. I put the bearings back in and moved the seat up with the switch, but realized there was nothing keeping the bearings from falling out again when the seat was in the far back position (which it mostly would be with me). However, looking at the other side I noticed a clip down in the track, which was one thing I did NOT find unfortunately. I wonder now at what point it accidentally got thrown out, by me or long before? At any rate, I decided to fashion my own in the mean time in true shadetree style. I didn't remove the other one to make an exact replica and I know this one is shorter on the back, but I am hoping it works for now until I can find one, which seems like a pretty tall order. ANY LEADS?? Once I get the seat positioned I will probably never move it anyway, but I like things to be fully functional. Next I drilled holes and bolted the seat belts in. Then, before installing the front seat (while I was waiting for a buddy to come over and help me lift the monstrosity), I installed the tissue dispenser, electric antenna switch, and Wonderbar foot switch (still need to install the carpet grommet)! All factory correct accessories, it felt like being in a dealership in 1957! Finally, in went the seats and I threaded the belts through the front and over the rear cushion before pushing it into place. NOTE: You have to set the front seat in first and push the skinny end that bolts to the floor down through first on the belt that has the thick clasp and THEN bolt it down, as it will not fit between the upper and lower cushion. This seemed much easier than trying to dismantle the seat (maybe a non-power one would be easier). To top it off on the outside, I installed original door edge guards I have been saving! Finally, I even did a little further detailing under the hood. It felt great getting these things done finally, and helped ease the sting of not being able to make the meet. Also, I got to take my daughter for a ride in it for the first time on Sunday as she rode in her car seat in the back to a local show, where we had a great time. As it turns out, they are held in the track by a split in lower track in the front where the metal is punched inward. Inspection showed mine had not been adequately punched in. Last weekend I was able to acquire the correct clip finally from a 6 way seat that had the lower brackets rusted out. The day before Brookfield I was able to install the proper clip and did my best to pound in the front of the track to retain them for good!
