HarryJ
Some while back I acquired a couple of Snap-on engine analyzers; a model MT1665 and a counselor XL (see pics). My question is.....Will these gadgets work on a 6 volt car? I read through the user's manual and no mention is made of the voltage of the car being tested. It does mention the oscilloscope can be run from a 12 volt battery.
Guest 47jag
Harry,Most analysers that I have come across have been mains powered. The interfaces to the car (dwell etc.) will be via direct voltage readings or in the case of the high tension stuff, through a transformer/transducer.Art
Guest Commodore
As Art says the analyzers will work on 6 volts. The reason the manuals do not talk about six volt operation is that by the time these analyzers were build six volt systems had long been obsolete. HarryJ
Thanks 47jag and Commodore: however, I am still a little confused..............the "User's Manual" for the analyzer shows the unit attached to the car's 12 volt battery???? I believe it can be used on the 6 volt systems...but how.
Larry Schramm
Just take the 12 volt power leads for the scope and attach to a 12 volt battery. Might need to ground the negative terminal to the car. Everything else should be the same.
Larry Schramm
Just take the 12 volt power leads for the scope and attach to a 12 volt battery instead of a 6 volt battery. Everything else should be the same. That is how I use my scope on my 6 volt vehicles.
