Pair of NOS Ford Convertible Top Latches to ID

Hello,

Looking to see if anyone can ID these Convertible Top Latches?

I have a pair of them with the original Ford tags on them, part number listed as 8M-794434-A.

I haven't had any luck being able to Google the part number and I'm not able to track the number down in any of my Ford Parts Catalogs either.

Any help would be great.

This guy seems to have the same latch and thinks it's for a wagon lift gate. 1949 and up mercury Which I would second the year and make as I've seen it used on other NOS mercury parts from that vintage.

Thanks for the information. Does the handle/latch mount on the inside of the vehicle or the outside? I looked at several pictures throughout Google and wasn't able to find picture of a vehicle where the latch was visible.

I'm not sure. To me they look like they would mount on the inside. I'm not sure which opens first, the top or bottom gate. My guess would be the last part that opens. I'll try to remember to look in my parts illustrations later today.
