Dynaflow?

Ok guys and gals, another newbie question. How can I verify that my '56 Special has a Dynaflow tranny? What do I look for?

It will have a Dynaflow or a standard transmission with a clutch unless someone modified the car.

If you have three pedals in an unmolested old Buick, the transmission is called a DYNAMITE STICK. If you only have two pedals, it's a DYNAFLOW.

Anne, it is very involved to change a Dynaflow for anything else in this era Buick. Not many people would even consider that unless the car was converted to a hot rod. If you have an automatic it is most likely a dynaflow. If you drive a dynaflow it is characterized by non existant shifts in so far as it is like a constant velocity transmission. Otherwise, if you have three floor pedals, like Al says , you have a VERY dynamite car!!!!

Thanks all for the replies. It is an automatic, no clutch, so must be dynaflow from what I'm reading. I did not realize the only options were dynaflow or standard. Need to do my homework better. I appreciate the help.

A dynaflow will have a torque tube drive (enclosed driveshaft inside a tube)

Even with a "standard transmission" there are a torque tube drive.
