GM A body.

Well . . . you need to specify which model year you might be referring to! Reason is that "Skylark" was used on different platforms over the years. From '64-about '79 model year, it was an A-body intermediate-sized car. There were a few years that it shared the rear wheel drive X-body platform with the Chevy Nova. THEN, it became a fwd X-body car.

As a result, if you looked at the build date on the door frame (when new model year production started about August each year!) and IF you took that to mean "model year", without consulting the VIN, then you could have a fwd Skylark rather than the rwd Skylark you ordered parts for. Astute Parts Consultants (dealership and otherwise) who knew of this little deal would ask the mechanic if the car was fwd or not, or to provide the VIN for clarification. LOTS of incorrect parts for Buick Skylarks were sent out for that reason, unfortunately.

The fwd Skylarks were notable (from other similar GM cars on that platform), at least initially, for their longer front section, to allow for the added width of the 90-degree Buick V-6 rather than the narrower Chevy 60-degree V-6. One of the few applications where a fwd 3.8L Buick V-6 had a 4bbl carb (in the pre-FI days).

Just some thoughts . . .
