1925 Model 45 : where do Rear Seat irons go ?

Recommended Posts

Mark Shaw loaned me the 1924 Buick Parts book and now I can identify some of the smaller parts that were in boxes that came with my 1925 Model 45 Touring. Most of the part descriptions are adequate to point me to where the part goes and I can figure out the rest, with one exception. Part # 170270, and opposite side # 170271 are described as Rear seat iron, right / left, 45. Can someone show me a picture of these installed ?

thanks

Kevin

Kevin,

I believe those are the brackets that the top rest attaches to. They screw to the back outside corner of the rear seat. There is a stud (rear seat iron stud) that screws into the large hole and the top rest goes on the stud. Could be wrong but that is my guess.

Here are Picture how they should be fitted. Those pictures are from a Std.model but I`m sure they looks the same.Be really sure you put the brackets on the very right place, otherwise you will have problem with the top-iron to fit on the right possision on the window frame brackets.

Kevin:

Here is an outside photo of a Model 45 showing the top of the "lug" part of the plate peeking out toward the rear corner. Also gives a reference as to placement of the top prop stud.

Thanks for the update. Did you get the re-plated radiator shell that was on e-bay 2 weeks ago?

Thanks- those photos are all very helpful. I have been combing the web for the last year looking for clear photos of the wood structure for this car. Do you have any more showing the wood front seat riser support ? And yes it was me that bought the 25 radiator shell that was on e-bay. Also just bought some headlights that looked pretty good too. I pulled the motor out this last weekend and think I know why the lower 5 transmission bolts didn't line up - the lower flywheel housing was wrong. It should have milled pads where the engine arms / rear motor mounts attach, but there are not. It appears to be a later housing that has been modified.

Kevin:

So glad you got the shell. I put in the first bid. The same seller also had a Re-cored? radiator missing the filler neck. I was bidding with the hope that the gentleman selling his fathers 1925-45 (local to me) would finally agree to sell it to me. Holding to their price. Comment "not eating any thing". Their car has a rusted out painted shell. I drove the car again last weekend. After a scary ride with hardly any brakes and steering, I knew I offered too much!

Last summer Tom Black from New York had tried to find a home for a fairly complete 1925-54 roadster chassis/engine. I contacted all I knew at the time with a 1924-1925 big series car to see if there was any interest in these parts. Tom was trying to sell it for another fellow indicating that if it was not sold in a certain amount of time all would go to scrap. I don't' believe there were any takers...
