47 Town and Country Starter

I have inherited a 47 Town and Country. I went to try to get it running and discovered the starter was missing. All I have is a cable and two bolts. The car has the 6cyl engine/fluid drive. I have researched the starter numbers and come up with a Autolite MAX-4050.I can't find one. Are there any other starters that would work even if they are not exactly the correct one?

Shouldn't be that hard to find the correct starter. Have you tried Andy Bernbaum, Vintage Power Wagons or other vintage Chrysler parts specialists?

Have tried Bernbaum and others, spent most of the day yesterday on the phone/web. I was hoping there was a alternate part that would work. I'll keep looking but any advice would be appreciated.

Try junkyards, too

The MAX-4050 used the 4-post solenoid - impossible to find - and VERY expensive if you do locate one

^^^^ Joe is right. They are a inward slanted 4 post starter used on 1941-48 Chrysler and Desoto cars. Six and eight cylinder chrylers use the same MAX-4050 starters too.

Thank you for the pictures, at least I know what it should look like. There is a gentleman who has a complete 48 6 cyl engine on Ebay now from a Windsor, he says he would sell me the starter, so these pictures will be of great help.
