joe_padavano
Is it advisable to use a thread sealer when connecting steel brake lines /PHILAbsolutely not! Brake lines (SAE ones, anyway) use inverted flare seals. This is a metal-to-metal seal ON THE TUBE, not on the threads. If you need sealer on the threads, you have a problem with the flare that needs to be fixed.
Rusty_OToole
The only place where the thread forms a seal is on some brass fittings used in old (more than 50 year old) cars. They should not have sealer on them either, the brass forms a seal. You should not put anything in or near your brake system except brake fluid, and possibly alcohol (methyl hydrate) used for cleaning parts when overhauling a master cylinder.
