Topper1961
Hi!Want to buy two Buick Trailmaster Spotlights. Parts number 981796. Everything is of interest. Aftermarket types could be of great interest as well. Thanks for looking!Got a reply from one of the 1957 Buick community members "brains of knowledge" Sean Smith BCA# 42746; here is the important part of his reply;Joern- Unfortunately I'm not going to be much help on this. The accessories like the Trailmaster were sold and installed by the dealer. The dealer may have sold other non-Buick approved accessories as well. The Nu Vue spot light does not look the same as the Trailmaster, but it is similar. I have a copy of the 1957 approved accessories book, but there aren't any part numbers in it. 981796 is in the correct range of numbers to be a Buick approved accessory, but it is probably the part number for the entire Trailmaster light package. I've attached some pages from the chassis parts book showing Group 9.773 which is the Trailmaster section with part numbers for each individual part. It looks like the main light unit is the same for 1957-1963 and that just the mounting arm is specific to 1957.This means I can exand my search to the years 1957 - 1963Thanks Sean for your valuable insight and good information (I asked the moderator to update this post with your complete reply and attachment) Edited July 12, 2014 by Topper1961 Update of information (see edit history)

These lights are hard to find and usually sell for about $1000 each, even in poor condition. I've seen NOS ones sell for around $2000.

Topper1961
In my search for the right Trailmaster Spotlight mirror, the following question has popped up, was the light itself (complete house) GM interchangeable between The Big Fives, and only the foot/bracket and hadware who was different. The reasons for asking is that it seems like there is some available parts, referring to the same Spotlight? Thanks! Topper1961
Did I get my Buick Trailmaster Spotlight Mirrors?Oh yes I did! Both on EBay, one to a very favorable price, the other right over 900.00 including shipping. The most favorable one was in best condition and from a 57 Roadmaster model 73. The other was 1958 Chevrolet Biscayne and then I needed a correct foot/bracket, which I was offered a NOS one by AACA member TOMPET. Of all Places on Earth in my own home country Norway. TOMPET is actually a great Source for old 50s Buick NOS parts. Both Spotlights is now disassembled, and at the very moment at a specialist Chrome Platter in East USA. My regular Platter back in the Phoenix area AZ is not able to handle jobs with severe pitting and complicated shaped parts. Attached picture shows the original one from the 1957 Roadmaster model 73, full of dust and dirt after years in a back yard in San Diego area. And as Dave Buick Man told me regarding my Dinsmore Compass "For pedigree status, one must go to the top of the food chain" like it or not, but his right.... buick man
Jo: Try this place near me. Last I talked to them they do the tedious and real Hex plating : http://www.shermsplating.comIs it not fun in how much time one can spend on some of these items. :/
