DeSoto 383 Engine Search

I'm looking for a good salvage 383 engine for a 59 DeSoto or a remanufactured engine. The Engine I have has a crack in the block and can't be repaired. Does anyone know of a place I can get this engine? Thanks

All divisions of Chrysler Corporation used the 383 engine from 1959 well into the 70's. Finding a 383 block or even a complete engine should be easy. Post and search at Mopar websites and the H.A.M.B. at jalopeyjournal.com.

I have a good 383, 727 tranny included for $600, but its in Oregon.

Depending on your year yours may be a 361, but will interchange with no problems. People get these confused all the time.

I think he is looking for the RB version of the 383, same stroke as 413 and 440. The B version of the 383 is the common version, same stroke as the 350, 361, and 400 engines.

But since the OP is new and has not weighed in since his query he must have moved on.

If he has a DeSoto, he should be looknig for a B block 383 - the RB 383 was only in American-built 1959-60 Chrysler Windsors and Saratogas. 1959-60 Plymouths, Dodges, DeSotos and Canadian-built Chrysler Saratogas used the B block 383. Canadian Chrysler Windsors used the 361 V8.

And the 413 V8 was never available on a DeSoto.
