Hershey Elegance

Recommended Posts

We enjoyed the Elegance at Hershey show. It was my third year attending, and it's always nice. Perfect weather this year, too. As usual, some really wild cars plus some HPOF time-capsule specials. Michael & Joannie Rich were there with two neat cars from Jack Rich's collection, including the radical 1931 Voisin. There were two Tatra T-87's, a 1939 and a 1947. The owner's grandfather found the car on a trip to Czechoslovakia in 1975... when the country was still in the Soviet orbit. He just happened to come across an old-car club at a lunch stop, and got to talking with the members. One of them owned the car, and a deal was made. It only took four years to get it out of the country!

A few things that caught my eye:

No, it's not a Packard. It's the sole surviving Pickard (1910 Model H):

Note the 25hp, 201cid, air-cooled engine:

Here is a 1907 Renault 53/45 Runabout. Twelve were produced at the behest of William K. Vanderbilt, Jr., and five survive. I've seen this one at Carlisle. Lucille got to get behind the wheel since she was dressed for the part!
