I am helping a lady sell her late husband's 1988 Buick Reatta Coupe. As you will likely already know, 1988 was the first/launch year for these sporty personal luxury coupes. The owner was an electronic engineer and he owned the car from shorty after graduation during the early 1990s. It is unrestored and from inspection this past weekend, appears mostly original. Mileage is just under 140,000 kilometers which equates to 87,000 miles. Car is finished in red with tan leather interior with suede seat bolsters, a 1988-only feature. Buick 3.8-liter engine and FWD. Touchscreen works as it should and displays proper fluid levels, diagnostics (4) all read 'OK' and everything seems to work. The car starts and runs and the many power items are functional. A set of 4 Reatta wheels in boxes can go with the car or separately. Car has the flat-face, 5-spoke factory alloys mounted. Framed Buick Reatta "Car of the Future Today" poster and several Reatta dealer brochures included or separate. Only glitch I have found is the engine cooling fan seems to run fast. Paint finish is pretty good and would buff up nicely. No rust issues noted. Interior is clean driver quality. Stored inside a garage on a trickle charger when not in use. Still missing price. If you want offers, there is always Ebay. To post here, one of the minimum requirements is to include price.

you or the seller might want to look at what other '88 Reattas are going for - here and ebay, etc.

I have been looking and see prices all over the map ranging from the cheap to the ridiculous. I have been working in this industry for years and know what it should go for, thank you. That said, I am taking offers on behalf of the estate and the late owner's widow. The forum master required me to put in a price to keep this ad up, so I complied with his directive and put in an ASKING price as the ad states. There are several listed online for more. We are open to reasonable offers and then I will present them to the widow for review and approval.

ok. as i said: good luck! i meant no harm, just research on actual prices that our vehicles are going for.

you'll also see a vast difference in prices - coupes vs. convertibles.

i really hope you get a good price for her! it will help all Reatta owners as they go to the "classic car" arena, since they are getting over the 25 year mark...

Thanks for your post. I do appreciate it. The asking price is simply to satisfy the forum's requirements. It is a nice honest and all-around good example from the launch year in 1988. Hopefully I can find a good new home for it.

Here’s one example.

I purchased this car just about a year ago.

It had some issues. The AC didn’t work. The engine had a knock when it warmed up (I was told the reverse. Had a “noise” that went away when it warmed up.) The taillight had (has) a crack in it, the headlight assemblies needed “fix-it” kits and there were some other small but fixable issues. But… all in all, this is a pretty good car. The exterior and interior are in good to very good condition with no major issues. A car anyone would be proud to be seen in. (I sure am). I actually flew out and drove it 550 miles to get it home. It had 104k miles on it when I picked it up. Any used car that can do that is a good car in my book. Since purchasing it I’ve been all over it from top to bottom and front to back, inside and out. It’s physically in really great shape for a 25 year old car. Better than some newer cars I’ve owned.

So… what did I pay for it? $1800.00.

I pulled it out of storage to get a shot for a calendar. Otherwise, it doesn't get driven in winter.

Thank you. Please note that I am not expecting the quoted amount at all...just trying to meet the forum's guidelines to make the post. I am just helping the late owner's wife and thought you folks on the forum might appreciate it and possibly have some interest and discuss making an offer on it. It seemed like a logical choice to go directly to the Reatta enthusiasts. I'm only seeking reasonable offers and will present them to the owner for consideration. Sounds like you got an excellent deal on your Reatta.

Dave,

I understand where you are coming from. I'm not suggesting that you accept a low-ball offer from anyone.

But, I wanted you and others to know what sometimes goes on in the real world. There are deals to be had and you will

be fielding a lot of low-ball offers before you get an offer that satisfies both you and the buyer because of this. For whatever reason, the Reatta doesn't command the prices similar vintage cars do. I for one like it that way. I'm pretty handy and have most all the tools necessary to fix what needs fixing so I'm not paying labor costs and that makes owning one of these cars even more affordable. Anyway...

I hope that you have time to sit on this car until a reasonable offer comes your way. The hard part is knowing what is reasonable. All I can tell you is that its somewhere between $1800.00 and $10.000. No less and certainly no more.

I would love to have this car for myself as I'd like to collect one Reatta from each model year. I used to have an '88 but it was too far gone to keep roadworthy. I dismantled it and have almost all the parts I'd ever need. Currently, my finances are such that acquiring another car isn't in the picture for the foreseeable future. I financed a business venture for my son and it's taking it longer for it to be as profitable as it had been projected. That's mostly due to a too rapid expansion of his business (presently, more out-go than income). Hopefully the tide will turn and my discretionary income will once again enable me to pursue my passion. Good Luck with this fine example of an American made motorcar.

I think that the '91 wheels should be sold as a set, separate from the car. Just my 2 cents.

Thanks for this. Best wishes for your son's business. Definitely a risk but well worth it. I think you're right on the wheels. Have been getting some questions on them so hopefully we can start with them and then get the car to a proper new home.
