distributor problem

i want to set the gap on my points that i just put in. Im not sure how to do it . There is a top and a bottom screw holding the points.

They both seem to be adjustable .Any help will be appreciated.

There is more to adjusting the points than just knowing which screw to adjust. I would really suggest that you get a copy of the Ford Shop Manual for 1956. They are available on CD from Rockauto (http://www.rockauto.com/catalog/moreinfo.php?pk=417702&cc=1338409) along with other items you will find very helpful. All for less than $25. It works great because you can print out the pages you need as you use them. Otherwise, have you checked you owner's manual. The 1957 one has instructions for changing the points and I believe the 55 and 56 ones do also.

Other manuals also contain the information to install and set the points. Chiltons / Motors / Haynes (any cars that had points type distibutors). I also preferred to check it with a dwell meter after putting the cap back on to insure they were gapped correctly.
