Guest gursey
I recently bought an original tachometer for my 55, and was wondering if the dash need to be removed in order to install it? Is there a simpler way? Thanks, Greg
1957Birdman
Hi Greg,I don't believe you need to take the dash out. Having said that, getting at it from underneath the dash to screw in the bracket behind the tach is not easy. It is much easier to do the job if you take the seat out of the car or remove the steering column to give yourself more space.Regards,Lew
Guest skygazer
I have learned how to get my head and arms under the dash without removing the seat... Its kind of like a limbo dance on my back with my hands over my head. I'm not particularly limber, but I can do it easily now.Once you are under the dash, the tach comes out by removing two nuts, disconnecting the cable, and disconnecting the light... very simple. miker98038
Disconnect the battery. You're working over the ignition switch and headlight switch, which always have power. Dropping something can have a bad outcome.
