Just bought a 1930 Franklin 145 and should I use an additive to the regular unleaded fuel?

how do I know how much oil is in the motor?

Thanks

Regular gas should be fine. Whatever oil you use, you should be aware that Franklin engines run hot and therefore need low ash oils, especially for the valves. Whether those oils are aircraft oils or synthetic is a matter of hot debate in the Franklin community and you will find opinions on all sides of the issue.

Hi, Thanks for the info. What do you have in operation/ shop manuals and price? I don't think I need any parts at this time.

Parts manuals are available at http://www.franklincar.org/tech/drawings/manuals.html

There are searchable engineering drawings at http://www.franklincar.org/cgi-bin/search

The Franklin club librarian, Bouvard Hosticka, has reproduction service manuals and such. I don't have his email with right now, but included in your Franklin club membership will be a directory with everyone's contact information. 145 manuals are probably easily found on eBay as well.

Where are you located Ken? What body-style is your 145? My sister has a 145 Convertable that we're restoring for her right now.

Hi Bill

I am in Arcata, Ca about 100 miles south of Oregon on the coast. I tried to attach a picture but it said file too large.

Kent,

I also own a 1930 Franklin 145 sedan. I am located in Arlington, Texas. Where are you located?

Western Franklin owners will be gathered in Sonoma for the 2014 Westrek between June 14-19 if you can get away. They will be touring the gold country with a day trip to Yosemite. I don't know how many cars will be there, but likely around 15-20.

Would like to be there but yesterday I hear a noise and don't know what it is yet. Either brakes or fan rubbing on metal.
