Please Help, I need torque specs for 1926 cylnder head

I need to replace my head gasket on my 26 Superior V, 171cu. 4 cylinder.

I've tried to find the torque specs for the head bolts, but the book I have said to make sure the bolts are tight.

I will be using new bolts with the new gasket.

As I understand it there were no specs. There are however, guidelines. Try the VCCA. Someone there knows the answer and will gladly help.

Hello wpalombo, Please confirm that the bolts are correct for your application. The thread count is one thread per inch different than new bolts. New style bolts have 12 threads per inch and the 4 cylinder chevs used 13 threads per inch. They look almost identical. There has been many blocks damaged over the years and then repaired with heli-coil inserts. The Filling Station can supply the correct bolts.

Are they cap screws or studs and what size?

By 1926 screw thread standards had been in place for years being 7/16 -14, 1⁄2 - 13, 9⁄16 - 12 and 5⁄8 - 11 for coarse thread bolts and 7⁄16 - 20, 1⁄2 - 20, 9⁄16 - 18 and 5⁄8 - 18 for fine thread bolts.

They are new bolts and head gasket from the Filling Station. I torqued the bolts to 55lbs, but I still have a coolant leak. The block and head were recently machined and when checked with a flat edge, were not distorted.
