Jim Bollman
I believe it was available as an after market item as well as a possible dealer add on. It hooked to the metal speaker grill that many cars had in the 40s and early 50s. I don't know if any specifics car used them from the factory. It is one of two styles that have shown up in Crosleys. 28 Chrysler
These were after market. These came with a mounting plate that would be screwed to the dash, then the tabs on the back of the ashtray would fit into 2 slots and held in place by slightly twisting it. To empty it you simply twist it about 1/8 turn.I removed several of these mostly from Ford A's.
HarryJ
It is an after market ashtray; I bought ~ 100 of these many years ago in a liquidation sale, all of which were WWII military surplus.
