I've always been fascinated by Duesenberg cars in general and those that came to India. So far we are lead to believe that 4 to 5 Model J cars were in India at one time and possibly a Model A. Comments and pictures from the esteemed members are welcome.

1. J196/2220 - Weymann four door sedan - Ownership record not cler, car doesn't survive but engine is in the ACD museum

2. J202 / 2222 - Murphy convertible sedan - Not known to have survived - Former owner Prince Mauzam Jah of Hyderabad, India

3. J499 / 2516 - Fernandez & Darrin Convertible roadster / Sister car to the Greta Garbo car - Now in Gen Lyons Collection - Former owner Prince of Berar - Azam Jah of Hyderabad, 4. J585 - Gurney Nutting Roadsert buit for Maharaja Holkar of Indore, now in Gen Lyons Collection.

If anyone knows more about the above mentioned cars and others with Indian connections I would love to know.

Here is a delightful period picture showing the cars that one belonged to the Mitter Family of Calcutta, India. In the line us are two SS Mercedes flanking two Duesenbergs ( J196 & J202) and in the middle is the experimental Rolls Royce Phantom 1, 17 EX that used to belong to the Maharaja of Kashmir.Pic courtesy Sulochana Roy / Gautam Sen.

What an amazing garage this must have been. This family was known for their excellent taste in cars, they had a Mercedes 500K also at one time.
