Dodge Dee 2
I have recently bought a 1936 Dodge D2 Coupe which was assembled in Australia by the factory of J Richards of Adelaide and shipped to England around 10 years . She is right hand drive which is perfect for the UK roads .I am looking to meet up with other 1936 owners in this forum who can share their knowledge of this beautiful car .Mine is very limited and this is my first classic carThe car appears mainly original and runs well and I am happy to post some more photos for comments and feedback ,if anyone interested ! ThanksFarrol

1936 D2
Photos yes! Especially things that show the differences between US built and Aus built cars! If your car is "mainly original", try to keep it that way. There is getting to be quite a following for cars that are original and "unmolested". Try to verify what is original on your car. This may become important in the future especially for the more rare Aus built cars. There is a lot of knowledge on this Forum about how to keep your car as original as possible especially speaking of the paint, interior and finding parts yet still make it presentable and driveable. Welcome to the Forum!
36 D2 Coupe
I, too would like to see what differences there are between the J Richards cars and the American and Canadian '36 Dodges other than the obvious RHD. Again, welcome to the forum.
Dodge Dee 2
Thanks for all your welcome comments .I will try and up load some images ,not sure yet how to do it but will work it out . I will also attach a photo of a cylinder lock for my rear hubcap lock which i need to replace ,just the barrel -it must have been used by a number of car manufacturers during the 30's so I hope someone can guide me to a source . I believe my 36 D2 is the only one in UK havent come across D4 either but am on the search . I think the same engine may been have used for models for a few years after ? The rumble seat doesnt seem to be at the correct angle when open ,although closers perfeclty . I thought this may have been adjusted to accommodate the rear wheel housing -I was told that this wasnt on the original but there was an option to have a suitcase carrier bolted on - The twin spare tyres were apparently built for the long Australian journeys in the outback ,maybe also a US option - Any feedback is really welcome -Thanks
knobless
Maybe just the wrong brackets on the rumble seat, not allowing to go to full position....

keiser31
Dodge Dee 2....That is the car that I shipped the rear spare tire cover for from here to the UK. That car did not originally have a rear spare and that is why the rumble seat will not open all of the way. I had a key made for the hubcap lock on that car.....I wonder why it does not work any more??
Dodge Dee 2
That is remarkable that you supplied the wheel housing - Do you recall the name of the buyer ? The locking mechanism seems to have been forced and is jammed and you cant insert the key .I have taken it to a locksmith here and they cant unpick it .I am reluctant to dismantle until I hear from some experts -Where did you get the cylinder barrel from as it seems a replacement is probably the way
keiser31
I do not recall the gentleman's name. The situation was this: The guy in the UK bought the spare tire cover and mounting bracket from someone who would not ship to the UK, so he had it sent to me and I shipped it to him. At the time I had it, the owner requested that I get a key for the lock. I did just that and it worked well. I have no idea why there was a new cylinder installed in the cap, but it was original when it came to me and left here.
1936 D2
Here are some shots I found of '36 Dodge RS Coupes. Hope the owners are ok with posting on this educational Forum!)First is a US Domestic RS Coupe with a trunk rack: Second is a another US Domestic RS Coupe with a differently styled trunk rack mounting:Third is an Australian RS Coupe with just a rear mounted spare. In this version you can see the spare seems to be located a bit lower or closer to the bumper than the version on your car. Also, these shots make your rear tire cover seem way to large in diameter.Good luck with all of your projects!
Dodge Dee 2
These are a good selection of Coupes - I can see from the 3rd set -Australian - that the rumble seat is set forward like mine due to rear tyre ,compared to the 1st Black US one Do you have any recommendations in US for sourcing Dodge parts for my car ? My first need is the rear hubcap lock cylinder as in my photo above ,but this is probably not specific to Dodge as other Coupes of this period had rear mounted wheels ,then rear brake shoe and lining assembly . Dodgenz
Hi Farrol,I've got a '36 D2 in the uk - not a coupe though. And I'm not in the uk currently either. You've got a great looking car there, I think I saw it for sale a few years ago there. I had a lock problem on my rear spare too, but the local locksmith sorted it in a few minutes and made me a key - sort of surprised they can't fix it if it was working fine a while ago. I found Andy Bernbaum good for parts and shipping to the UK when I was there, you should be able to get your brake parts through them. Good luck and enjoy the driving, I used to go up the motorway to Northampton and used it around London when I worked there - a bit exciting when it rained using vacuum wipers in the traffic, but there's nothing like a challenge! Dodge Dee 2
Great looking car - is it 4 door sedan ? .How did you come by it and is it in long term storage ?
Dodgenz
Yes 4 door flatback (the rarer one - I think around 5000 made versus 50,000 of the model with a boot, but someone may be able to correct me there!). It's an NZ one, so right hand drive - I imported it before I exported myself! It's in storage, although I drive it when I'm back in the UK.
