The loose leather belt is important to maintan any life in the bearings of the fan. A loose coupled jointed leather belt is best for this. As you will know, there is no adjustment and the tendancy to put a one piece belt on might mean 'too tight' a belt causing damageThe fan only needs to turn when at rest anyway, the radiator is more than capable of keeping the engine cool once on the move (I think)Is it possible to break the coupling between the water pump and the belt pulley drive shaft to slide in a continuous fan belt?
