V-12 heads, polished or painted? 47 Conti Cab

Which is correct on a v-12 Continental, polished or painted heads? And despite what's correct, which do you prefer?

I do actually really like the green. BTW, I have the air canister but no filter. Good source?

1940 & 41 Continentals and 41 customs had polished aluminum heads. Regular Zephyrs had the cast aluminum heads as they came out of the molds. In 1942 cast iron heads were used on Zephyrs, Continentals and Customs. There has been discussion as to what color the heads were painted. Some say green and others say gray or argent on the Continentals and Customs.

Mine have never been retouched, so maybe I can find the answer myself after getting rid of some of the top layer of crud. They look "greyish" to me now, but I need to clean them up and see what I see.
