Hello all, got a question. My 1939 Dodge Deluxe has a Stromberg carb, and from reading my factory service manual that is how it left the factory. I have noticed however that the '39 Plymouth's I have seen have Carter carbs. Is one better than the other or more dependable, and are they interchangeable on the intake manifolds of both?

(OPINION)

If you were to grade the carbs on a scale of 1 (awful) to 10 (wonderful):

Carter AS USED BY PLYMOUTH, CERTAINLY NOT ALL CARTERS.

1933~1938 - MAYBE as high as a 3

1939 - improved to a 5

Stromberg as used by Dodge

1933~1935 - 5

1936~1938 - 6

1939 - 8 or 9

Summary - the Strombergs were definitely better than the type of Carter used by Plymouth.
