American in Scotland ??

Hi Folks,

Possible that this is an American car, it is possible that it was made in England, and it is possible that it was photographed in Aberdeen in Scotland. That came with the photo.

I have my doubts that it has connections with Britain because it does not have sidelights on the mudguards, which was mandatory by law. It is however right hand drive, so could have been made/used in one of the 'colonies'. Has a dished steering wheel, almost like a reversed model T. Most interesting are the hub nuts which are square rather than the usual six sided. It seems to have American wheels and it has an American 'feel', except possibly for the radiator.

Would appreciate any thoughts.

I thought for a start it might have been a Rollin, but I son't think it is. As nickelroadster said the windshield looks British. Is it possible to blow up the pic enough to read the tyre size? That might give a better idea of its proportions. It sort of looks Clyno or Morris Oxford sized - if it were on 19s but if they are 24s then it will be much bigger. I think the date would be around 1924-26.

I originally thought Wills St. Claire because of the radiator shell shape, but a lot of incorrect stuff for that.

Yes, basically the radiator shell, hood and fenders look like it. The rest does not.

Another car that this somewhat resembles is an HCS but the windshield looks different. The real key to what this car is is probably those strange looking hubcaps. I don't recall seeing any like them.

Columbia was built in Detroit 1916 - 1924.

Those are ornamental guards so the shoes and boots don't scrape the splash apron.

I have just been away for a few days in my native Balkans to see the Christmas lights of Zagreb and wondered if anybody would crack this one which looked very difficult. I guess the website reference to it must the exact same car as there do not seem to be too many of them around. To my annoyance I find that I have the picture of the red 1923 car that is on the internet in my rerecords, but guess not too well cross-referenced!

I have subsequent also found this car on a Scandinavian Columbia specialist site which suggests the car went from Oz to the UK in 1989 :http://www.columbia6.se/

I know this is an old thread but it is my Columbia light six, built in Detroit in 1923, shipped to Oz and sent to UK 1989. Some good detective work there guys.
