Guest bribritx
Hey everybody!Brand new here and can't wait to get some great advice from you all! I just bought this 1968 Dodge Polara for $700 here in Texas. And it runs! We had our trusted mechanic check it out and he said overall the engine sounds great! Will need a new water pump, etc. Our family will start restoring it this weekend. I think just scrap metal alone is like $300-$400, so I think I got a heck of a deal. What do you all think? Also is this a somewhat rare car or hard to find?ThanksBrianPICS are attached.
Landman
the mechanical parts should be easy to find. The missing trim on the fender and beltline could be another story. You'll have to be prepared to do most of the labour it yourself, because the costs can easily exceed the value of the car. But they are nice, comfortable and reliable cars. Have fun. TexRiv_63
Welcome to the forum, that is a good looking car and you got a great deal. Looks like an old police car! Not sure where you are located in Texas but you can also try CTC Auto Ranch near Denton for parts:http://www.ctcautoranch.com/index.htmlGood luck! Guest bribritx
Thanks Tex! I am in San Antonio TX. I checked out CTC Auto Ranch and they do have some Polara's from 68. Will definitely be using them! Also, I checked out the VIN # with this website- http://www.tpocr.com/dodgevin4.html and it turns out that although this was not a police car, it was manufactured in Windsor, Ont., Canada! Is that kinda rare?
Guest bribritx
Hey everybody,Restoration on car is moving along well. So far car has a new radiator, new water pump, spark plugs, oil change, various hoses, air filter, etc. Having the interior done now via new vinyl seats (Red W/ Black middle), New Headliner, Door Panels, Carpet in Trunk area, and dash fixed. Car has been running good and obviously will be adding things here and there, while watching total cost in the car. Doing ok on that end right now. Forgot to mention I have the missing "P" on Polara, and all the Chrome moulding except 1 small piece on the drivers side near the rear. Also need to find the headlight bezels for the car. Will keep you all updated!
Guest Kendrajean88
Bribri. This is my first car. My parents sold it out from under me in San Antonio Texas. I know it's her because she had all the trim took off from my now husband because he hated it and it still has the dice shifter knob I put on her <3 I am so happy to see you are restoring. She is a very rare car indeed!! I would love a way to connect with you so I can see more pics of her. Please email me or find me on Facebook. Kendra Martinez goldblooded. Type it just like that and you should see a redhead pin up looking girl. That's me!! Please contact me back or by email kendra_jean2001@yahoo.com. I'm sure you don't want to let her go but if there is any chance you would id love to have her back. Or maybe your still in the Texas area and I can come see the restoration when your done?! Either way I'm so excited I found her. I'm 25 now and this was my first car at 16!! My parents sold it to some couple while I was stationed overseas. They did pay for it but it hurt me so much. I'm so happy to see her again and happy as hell you replaced that damn cracked radiator!!!! <3 contact me!!! <
Guest Kendrajean88
Btw I think I still have all the chrome and the bezels somewhere in the garage unless my dad gave them to the person he sold it to. I will ask him when I can!!
dei
Also, I checked out the VIN # with this website- http://www.tpocr.com/dodgevin4.html and it turns out that although this was not a police car, it was manufactured in Windsor, Ont., Canada! Is that kinda rare?Hi & congrats on your acquisition.Being produced here in Windsor, Ontario isn't all that rare. At one time through the 80's different models of Dodge, Plymouth and Chrysler were made at this plant as they shared the same base platform and dashes making it less costly for production. The plant is still here and assembles all the Chrysler Mini Vans since the St Louis factory has been closed.AND..........Isn't this Forum great? To think you can connect to a previous owner (who might even have that trim you are missing)!I just love stories like this!

Guest bribritx
UPDATEThe Polara looks a little different than when I got her last November! Forgot to mention this car has 55,000 miles on it. Ive been told that nobody sees these cars on the road anymore. I know its not a Charger or Fury, but I like the uniqueness of the car. I do need help on one thing. I have all the trim moulding but need the clips, and have tried alot of places to no success. Any ideas? Thanks Edited May 13, 2014 by bribritx (see edit history)
