55 TBIRD VIN Locations

Is the VIN also on the frame somewhere? cant' seem to find it:confused:

I assume you are aware the serial number (no VIN numbers in 1955) is on the patent plate on the firewall. The serial number that matches the number on the patent plate is stamped on the frame in three places, only one of which is easily available to view. The easily viewed one is on top of the frame on the passenger side underneath the hood. It is about opposite the middle of the engine. It is not normally stamped that deeply into the metal and you may have to use some paint remover to see it.

Do you have reason to belive the patent plate is not original to the car?

Hi, Thanks for the reply, I thought mabe 55s were a little different than 56-57s. There are two holes about one inch in diamiter where the ID plate is suppose to go. The plat has been moved so I just wanted to check and verify.

Nope, all the patent plates were located in the same place. It sounds like someone took the easy way rigging up an air conditioner for the car, or something like that.

Thanks, found it. It does match, the sequence numbers look a little rough spacing and not the same font as the one on the fire wall. Just want to make sure before I invest..

If you take the body off of the frame ;

you will find another set of factory assembly line stamped numbers on the frame.

They are located just about dead on the middle of the frame, passenger side.
