MIClassicGuy
Ok....Time for a long overdue update- The body is painted and set back on the chassis, and the doors should be painted and fitted soon (next week?)..We made the decision to do the whole works on the engine, and crated it up and shipped it yesterday to Pakes' engine in WI. Shannon is gathering material and tools to dive into the interior as soon as the body gets back here....While waiting for the engine to get back, I can work on painting all the bolt-on engine parts so they are ready to go. Here are a couple of spy shots...
MIClassicGirl
The photos don't do it justice!! The body looks beautiful!! The body guy went through a lot to get it this nice! We'll have stories about that later. According to Dennis, putting the body back on the chassis even made the body guy a little more excited than usual!!! Wish I could have been there to see it! keiser31
That is looking so beautiful!! You guys are doing such a fine job. I am so excited to see the finished project.
Ian_Greenlaw
looks great guys....love the colour and the depth of it. For the first time last week one of my girls said it actually looks like a car and yours won't be far along to. Keep up the great work.Ian
Scotts_DG8
Oh nuts, you really did only post spy shots. I was only kidding? Really! You can tease us though, the color looks great and although it's going to be a bit hard to wait it will obviously be worth it to see the "Big" picture(s) when you decide to post some. Did I mention that I really love the color? All your hard work is showing us all that this is really turning out to be a looker. You both should be very proud of the direction you've chosen and what you've accomplished. Scott...
MIClassicGuy
I was considering posting only blurred/ blocked out pics from now until next summers Iowa meet, then have an unveil there as we pull it out of the trailer, but I get the feeling we won't easily get away with that! lol...Not to mention I can't keep a secret that long anyway...Thanks for the compliments, Guys! MIClassicGuy
Not much in the way of progress for the amount of time that has passed since last update, but we did get the engine back from the machine shop, and I got it painted...We know the color is probably not original, but since we weren't going to get it exact anyway, I figure do it this color as a tribute to the Dodge Brothers since they painted most of their engines this color when they were alive...(is this statement correct?) Bob Zetnick
My '29 engine is a sort of spruce-like blue green too....looks great....I hope when I get the body painted it looks as good as yours!!!

MIClassicGuy
Not too bad for amateurs. We noticed that the doors rattle when we rolled it into the garage...Are there any "professionals" out there that sell the rubber parts to quiet them up?? lol And if they come from anywhere near Hersey, I hope they don't melt like chocolate! MIClassicGuy
The bad part about it being home in the garage is I'm scared to death something is going to happen to it....I want to cover it in 10 layers of bubble wrap!
cahartley
If you plan on covering it use an old bed sheet or loosely draped plastic so it gets air at all times.
MIClassicGuy
We have a large piece of flannel to use a dust cover when needed... Tonite we managed to squeeze the engine into the frame...seemed like somebody squeezed the frame rails together a half inch! Was a challenge for a while there.... keiser31
COOL! The tightness was probably due to the paint on the mounting areas at the rear. That is always a problem after painting.

Scotts_DG8
I've looked at your update several times now over several days and hadn't responded as I don't have the words to do any comments I could make do justice. I can totally see being a bit worried about scratching it somewhere. It does look great and the color is just so right for the car. I'm looking forward to the future progress updates just as much as you two are probably looking forward towards being able to post them as it would mean it's getting closer to being completed. MIClassicGirl
Thank you, everyone, for your comments and words of encouragement! It is now getting very exciting to be putting items back onto the car after it being apart for so long. Scott, you are right, the color is just perfect for the car. I can't wait until we get the fenders done and all the other items attached to the car. Oh, wait till you see the bumpers and radiator cover on her! She'll have her bling on then!! The interior color is going to be a little bit lighter than the green and it is mohair. I have it here at the house and it is waiting for me to get started on the interior. It will look even more elegant once the interior is put in!!As of right now, we are in a holding pattern with the car. We got buried in snow yesterday and are still trying to dig our way out!! Way too much way too soon!! And there is word of another storm coming through this coming Tuesday that is supposed to dump another 16"!!! All's I can say is.....What The Hell!!! MIClassicGirl
To give you guys an idea of what we have gone through, here is a picture of our house. All the snow on the roof....that came in one day. There was no snow on our roof before yesterday! It is wet, heavy snow and we got probably a good 18" in less than 24 hours!! Dennis has had a hell of a time plowing. The picture just doesn't do it justice!! The snow is deeper than it looks!
Ron Lawson
Hi Shannon that is unbelievable The only time I have seen snow falling was in Canada in 09 at Lake Louise There was no storm thou just a lot of snow flakes We two Aussies went and had a snow fight much to the amusement of the locals You can always come "down under" we are having a beautiful Spring day or 27 deg celcius I don't think that I would survive one of your winters Mean while stay warm and safe Ron and Kerry

JTF
And another time-consuming little job done...The fuel sending unit....May not look exactly factory stock, but just had to get it done to be able to move on...(June is coming fast)Just curious whether you had the fuel sending unit restored or not and, if so, whether you did the restoration yourself or sent it out for repair. I found the one for our car, but it's in rough shape. Thanks!
vintchry
You had asked about the door rubbers. Seems to me you have 2 door bumpers on each side, some push in and are a block on the outside and others slide in with a chamfered nut inserted in the rubber, there would be a hole in the center of the bumper for a screw and that screw is visible in the door jamb. Steele has both of these styles as does AMS (the old Mitchell Motor Parts) There may also be a strip of rubber at the bottom of your door, behind the door panel that seals the lower edge when shut. JTF
Bumping to ask the below question again plus another.1. Just curious whether you had the fuel sending unit restored or not and, if so, whether you did the restoration yourself or sent it out for repair. I found the one for our car, but it's in rough shape.2. Did you do the upholstery yourself or did you send it out to be done?
MIClassicGirl
Sorry for delay in posting anything lately. Here is the progress today. Finally done with antique snowmobile racing and it's starting to warm up enough you can be out in the garage and not freeze your hind end off!! February average temperature for us was 2.9 degrees Fahrenheit!! Let's just say it was stupid!!JTF..... Sorry for not answering your questions sooner. We've been a bit busy and have had family matters to attend to also. I'll be working on the interior myself. Haven't started yet as I'm still trying to learning the commercial sewing machine we have. I have the mohair fabric and vinyl that I want. Still have some other supplies to get from local upholsterer that has been really awesome about advise. Dennis restored the sending unit himself. He's hoping it will work, but won't know for sure for a while till we get it running. Anyways, enjoy....don't give Dennis too much hell for the engine color! He doesn't think it's correct!! Be gentle!!Shannon....aka MISpasticGirl (in honor of nearchoclatetown )
