Webmaster and Master Editor Award Plaques

Recommended Posts

The club intends to upgrade the National Awards for webmaster and editors. Believe it or not the plaques we give out are VERY expensive but sure don't look it and we feel they are a bit "stodgy" looking. There are many options available to us from timepieces in books, plaques (more modern) and trophies. Sure would like some thoughts from you folks about your likes and dislikes. Thanks.

I personally wouldn't want something with a timepiece in it. another set of battery to replace and/or need to make sure no batteries with it to leak if award is stored away.

I'm fine with either something to hang or to set around. Only have so much room, so the older ones end up stored away.

Like Wayne suggested, some examples might be helpful.

I had no idea those plaques were expensive.

I agree that clocks or books wouldn't be as significant or meaningful.

Trophies might be okay; but many trophies today appear to have

plastic throughout, and bases made of plastic synthetic marble or

vinyl-laminated wood products. Compare those with some of the

beautiful trophies of decades past, such as those shown in the AACA's

own display cases at headquarters!

I would rather see something small and of high quality.

Personalization (indicating the winner's name and the year)

make the award special. Perhaps some type of bronze

automotive sculpture, even if it's only 2 inches long, with an

attached plate for name engraving?

Inspired ideas could almost come from an artist or a

sculptor, who may know how to achieve the best effect

for a reasonable amount. An uninspired run-of-the-mill

trophy shop is probably not the best source for creativity!

A few more ideas---

One correspondent here mentioned etched glass.

That could be attractive, especially if the the form were

creative. The etching could be attractive automotive artwork

from the past inscribed onto a flat glass or crystal surface.

Something like an acrylic (plastic) pyramid that one sources

from a trophy shop is, in my opinion, rather uninspired and

would not be a creative option.

Whatever form of an award you select, consider getting the

base from one source, such as a wood-working supply house,

and the "award" part from a creative source. That would

open up far more options and could actually be a way to save money.

If the reward for being a Master Editor or Master Webmaster

were unusually well done, the memento itself would be an

extra inducement to excel.

The new Master Editor awards for 2014 (given out in February 2015)

are beautiful! The etched crystal monument from St. Regis Crystal was

a thoughtful idea, and the personalization, with name, date, and region

engraved, makes it even more special.

It really is inducement to excel; and for long-serving editors, encouragement

to stay! Thanks, A.A.C.A.!
