Metz models

I got my new puchase home today and now the puzzle starts. Is it 1913 or a 1914. It came with two engines a 1913 spare with Master carb [ stuck] and a 1914 installed. It has the wooden rear tool box with the kiddy seats. It appears to be real and still has a little blue paint under the yellow. Also with the car is a 1914 metal turtle shell, ah-al 1914 roaster. The car has the 3/8 studs on the gas tank bracket to attach the 1914 turtle shell just like it belonged there.

So which is it a 13 Model 22 or a 1914 special roaster?? I have zero paper work.

If the original paint was blue, it's a "22". The Special Roadster was vermilion. The only serial number was on the engine near the water outlet. If you think the engine is original, you can date it from that.

Since it has both a 13 &14 engines [ 14 installed ] and the turtle shell with it, it is likely a 1914 torpedo roadster. Rare but ugly.

Greetings All,

I feel a bit odd by replying to this old thread, but I was searching through old posts looking for anything related to Metz and found this one.

              I bought Ed's Metz.

I will attach a few pictures of it which Ed used in his for sale ad on the HCCA website back in 2016.

The car runs and drives. I have been getting it sorted with the intent of touring with it. The longest trip so far was 118 miles but, alas, it returned home on the ramp truck. Oh well.

My long term goal is to prove that the Metz is not deserving of the miserable reputation with which many regard it. Hopefully I won't become Don Quixote astride Rocinante.

Best Regards,

Bill Harper
