Hi People,

Does anybody know what the correct carburettor is for this car and where I can get one? I am restoring a basket case and it has the wrong one.

I am also after the small screw on hub-caps and a radiator cap (all badly damaged).

Also, what is the correct nut and bolt type on the car? I am in England and the english car I have just finished was BSF and Whitworth. I'm not sure what the American cars used.

My Chrysler was a Holden bodied vehicle (shipped as a rolling chassis to Australia and bodied by them). I don't know if this would make a difference.

Just started the work and need all the help I can get.

Thanks

Julien

Threads will be standard unf & unc as found on most US manufactured cars of the period

Wow, simply wow! According to the Standard Catalog of Chrysler, there were only 71 Model 65 pheatons produced that year. The carb should be a Stromberg U-1 or U-2. The U-2 is reproduced by Welcome

The correct carburettor is a Strongburg U2 you can buy them brand new from Brisbane ,Australia. (Vintage and classic restorations)

The nut and bolts you are looking for are UNF and UNC. I have restored a complete car and have had it for forty years ,Holden body tourer. I have completely rebuilt everything myself, I know lots about this model. I am making pressed Brass Water jacket plates for these engines.

Hope this helps I have just found this on the Internet and I can help but I am new to forums.

post-66565-143142167496_thumb.jpgHello David. I am now getting on with my 65. I would appreciate some pictures of how the dash should look as mine has been hacked about. Also, I'd like to know how the interior should be trimmed. thanks Julien

Hello David, Thanks for the response. I'm off to a big autojumble on Friday. If you have time to get me an image of the ignition switch and rear lights /brackets before then it will be very useful. Also if there are any lights or mirrors on top of the front wings and wiper motor - images of these too please. Thanks Julien

Julien,

Have you picked up a Master Parts book yet? I would also suggest looking for the AEA Tune-up Cards as well, they have a lot of good information. I think that the best way to find parts is by the part number. Even when you don't know what the part should look like, knowing that it is the right part number will keep you out of trouble. Here is a link to what I think your ignition switch should look like. Maybe someone who has the Chrysler book can post the correct part numbers for you.

Hi Julien, attached photo of the dash, have photo's of the interior trim to send as well Cheers David

~Wonderful. Thanks for those photos David. Printed out for tomorrow's Autojumble. I have 'sidelights' just behind the bonnet rather than parkers between the doors. Not sure if correct but they look the part. Great looking car. I have emailed your photos to my good lady/ de-rusting monkey and she is getting even keener on getting her finished over the winter now that she has seen yours. What size are your tyres. I have huge balloon things fitted - way too large. Your's look just right.Julien

Tyres 5.50 x 18 mine are Olympic but they don't make them any more. The newer ones I've got on at the moment are made in Portugal. "Mabor General" 5.25/5.50 x 18 : height 760mm. Be careful different makers have different heights for the same size tyre !! uneven tyre heights will make your diff.run constantly as if going round a bend !!post-94370-143142178535_thumb.jpg Fedco badge on left of dash. Note the small black pull down switch hanging down is the dash light switch. Cheers David

The engine is out and soon to be off for a check over and repaint.

The chassis and body have gone back to Stamford to have the body sorted out.

Progression of sorts......

For what it’s worth here is my baby, I’m not a traditionalist so my car will never go into a show for judging as it has too many personalized features, but we all can’t be the same and I hope I don’t upset too many people ;)

post-86924-143142337632_thumb.jpg

Here is my Dash and as you can see I have a Radio, Temp gauge and a little mural of the homestead were the car was found so not very traditional but it gives you the idea as what the dash should look like

post-86924-143142337647_thumb.jpg

I also have an electric windshield wiper motor and have a Clock mirror and have updated to a Blinker system so when turning I have flashing lights to indicate which way I am turning a must to have when driving around Sydney and of course a Saint Christopher badge mounted on top of the Dash.

post-86924-143142337657_thumb.jpg

Well that's my car anyway, have started on a 4 door Sedan of the same year and model as the Roadster which is a 1929 Holden bodied (Made in Australia) Chrysler Roadster Model 65

Forgot to mention and sorry to say but David your dash light switch just doesn’t look right for such an original car (Sorry Mate) I know I said that I’m not a traditionalist but with such a Beautiful original car you need the correct toggle switch.

post-86924-143142338951_thumb.jpg

So please send me a Private Message with an address and I’ll send an original toggle switch down to you.

Thanks for the photos. Very useful to see another original car to inspire me and ensure that I do the job properly.

Hi David

I've been on a bit of a go-slow on the Chrysler due to too much going on.

The little progress I have made is that I have acquired a 'new' period carb from the USA and the engine is in its component parts about to be re-bored and I have found a source for new pistons etc in California.

The car is stripped to a rolling chassis and the next stage is to paint the chassis and sort out the tired road springs and repair a few mods/ botches that were made to the rear axle.

I am just finishing an engine for a baby Austin - to get the car out of the garage to give me space for the Chrysler. I am hoping for very good progress this year.

I hope your fine machine is running well.

Regards

Julien

hi julien, have been having trouble with getting a private message to you and have difficulty with computors anyway apart from email. I have about 12 detail photos of Chrysler body and trim that are too large to email. If you would like to give me a postal address I will post them too you. Glad you haven't gone too far yet as Australian built cars were a little unique and I have a large amount of detail specifically relating to the various Australian built Chrysler 65's. I also have contacts in Aust that make spares for these cars, king pins, bushes, ball joints, water jacket plates etc

Regards David
