Guest mike in ca
My dad has a home made tractor from the 40's that has a 20's(?) maxwell engine and trans. It is almost all there, we need a radiator, starter, oil fil cap, and a few other odd and ends. I cant read the tag, but the numbers stamped in it are 712-B 3853, the name Remy is on whats left of the pot metal end with the brushes. Anyone have info on this starter? The serial number on the engine is 519299, any idea what year the engine is?Thanks in advanceMike in ca

Guest mike in ca
Thanks for the info, I guess it would be hard to find a replacement starter since this one was only used for one year. Are there other starters that will fit this engine? Also I need the crankshaft pully, the pully on this engine was destroyed years ago. Since the starter is 1925 specific, does that date the engine to 1925 as well?ThanksMike in ca
hddennis
Mike, since I know both the first Chrysler 4 cylinder and the first Plymouth 4 cylinder owe some of their design to the last Maxwell, I wonder if the starters might not be the same?Howard Dennis
