HELP WITH H V12 REAR MAIN SEAL

1941

Recommended Posts

I AM FINALLY INSTALLING THE CRANKSHAFT IN MY REBUILT BLOCK ;

AFTER WAITING OVER TWO YEARS TO HAVE THE CRANK GROUND AND POLISHED.

I NOTICED TWO "DINGS" IN THE REAR OIL SLINGER (see pics).

1) Will this affect a good oil seal?

2) How in the heck do you replace this seal?I have the seal inclded with the gasket kit from E. Brown.

ANY HELP APPRECIATED

Mike Lynch

The dings should have no effect on the slinger seal set up. If you plan to use the rope type seal you will have to do as Jeff says and have the slinger vane ground off to provide a surface for the rope seal. The 2 halves of the slinger seal just provide a path for returing oil passing out the rear main into the oil pan.
