I was just checking to make it wasn't one of the "oh Buick tried something new that year and put in a cig lighter powered by fusion and in a triangle shaped hole, so no other cig lighter ever made can fit into that slot unless you find a NOS part...." issues that I see sometimes.

Oh and that bottle cap under the lighter is a Michelob that looks like its from the 80s lol so I just left it there

While I'm here, any ideas on right shocks for my '63? I had some put in last week, but not feeling right to me yet. I know it takes a little time for them to settle in, but I have a feeling I may be changing them for something closer to original shocks.

Monroe Sensa Tracs. Monroe makes a specific shock for the 63-65. Check Rock Auto for them. I bought a set the other day at a good savings.

Although in the Buick book I have it states both lighters work off a internal fuse, which I have yet to see.

That fuse is an in-line fuse that screws to the base of the lighter. It has a terminal on the end of it to which you attach the 12V wire. The receptacle itself is the ground.

So funny story...

At the last downtown Monroe Car show I parked my car next to a beautiful 1957 Bel Air. Expert restored...looked like a show car. Got my folding chair out and sat down on the sidewalk behind my car (as is custom) said hello to the older gentleman and his wife who owned the 57. He looked at me like I had 3 heads, got up and MOVED his car 3 spaces down. At the same time his wife moved their chairs down as well..never said a word to me. LOL..

Then there is the one guy that trailers his car on a flat bed to the car show every month and DEMANDS to get the same spot every time....it's a real hoot at these local shows. But the muscle car guys never want to park next to me or the Bel Air guys (there are about 10 Bel Airs)

That's one of the things I've noticed about the car shows when the BCA (or local chapters) is involved, the people are a lot less snobby.

I sat next to Bob at the AutoFair in Charlotte whos car is light years nicer than mine and he never said nary a word about it. In fact we talked most of the day about things I could do to improve the car and in what order I should work on them in. It actually was really very helpful.

It seems the overall attitude is to keep everyone's cars on the road to represent Buick as best we can, instead of how I can make my car better than everyone elses.

I for one of tired of Bel Air's. There are everywhere and look the same to me now a days. The main thing I like about my '63 Electra is there aren't many around. I have yet to see one inn my part of Oregon. I do get plenty of looks and "nice Buick" comments when I'm driving it. The other day, there was a couple taking photos of it when we returned to our car. The man said he made music videos and asked if I would think about loaning my car for one. I have yet to call him about whether I would or not, still thinking about it.

Only year and model made the master cylinders are pretty hard to come by and they don't interchange with any similar Buick years.

you want to talk about being an odd guy out you should try driving this to car shows.

Love the car show stories. I'd be proud to park my GS next to any Buick guys. But the part that makes me laugh is when people ask me what type of Chevy it is.

I don't even know what that is.

HOT Light..

When I turn my key the cold lamp lights up and so do the other lamps, except for the HOT light. In the manual it says that the switch is grounded when you turn the switch on to force it to light up so you can test the light. I've crawled under the dash and tested the leads on the terminal and they have power, but the lamp never lights. I've tried moving the cold lamp bulb to the hot spot and it still does not light.

The book is not much help on this one...has anyone else ever ran across anything like this? Is there somewhere on the car I can test other than that bulb spot to make sure that the temp is working and it's not just the lamp. The cold lamp DOES go on and off like normal.

I was reading the Owner's Manual for the operation of the headlights / park lights when I came across the HOT LIGHT section. It states "This light does not glow when the ignition switch is turned on; therefore, to check the operation of the light bulb, make certain the light goes on while the engine is cranking."

So - no light when on, but light only when cranking or if the engine is actually hot. Check it out.

My chassis manual is the one I'm reading and the light never comes on when I'm starting the car.

The chassis manual says that the lights are supposed to come on when the key is set to ON and of you check YouTube for starting videos you can see this.

I've actually gotten it to light now by grounding the starter to the dash with my test light but I can't figure out where on the starter to attach a permanent ground wire

I have enjoyed this thread. I just purchased a 1964 Electra myself. Its a very loaded Coupe, power leather insert buckets, "Jetson's" looking center console, Power everything, Cruise. This video has some pics from Wednesday. I'll be back at it on Sunday.
