Looks like could be for a 32-36 Chevrolet. Are there four studs on the top? 32-36 Chevrolet has 4 studs. Thas is where the intake manifold should bolt.

Is there a chance the number could be 837309? The GM parts books lists this as the part number (cast into the manifold as on yours) for 1934-36 Chevrolet. No other casting/part numbers are close to the one your provided.

This looks identical to the one on my 36 Chevrolet. Next time (in a few weeks) I'll be where the 36 is being kept I'll check the number. The "big valve" inside is the heat riser. There was originally a heat sensitive spring that uncoiled as the manifold got hot, closing the valve. The idea was to direct exhaust gases to heat up the intake manifold/carburetor until the engine warmed up. With today's volatile gas, this isn't really necessary.
