I have a bunch of these new unopened in a box GE All Glass Sealed Beam Lamps. The box reads: 4578 60W 28V, and on the bottom of the box it also has MCG461CE. On the back of the lamp it reads: 60W 24V GE4578 CIM Flood 10-0. Also USA and 217. (Why the box says 28V and the lamp says 24V....????) The lamp is 6" in diameter. I am pretty sure these are automotive headlamps....but, for what vehicles could these be for? What kind of value could these have? We have had them since new anywhere from 15 to 30 years - but no longer have any info on them.

There are/were other applications for sealed beam lamps, battery powered standby emergency lighting for buildings comes to mind.

And aircraft too. I'll look up that lamp number in my 1970 GE lamp guide this evening and see if it is listed, if so they usually give the typical application.

The typical usage of the GE4578 is listed as "C.I.M." which a footnote defines as "Construction & Industrial Machinery". Its specifications are:

Filament: 2C-6

Rated Avg. Lab Life: 800 hours

Max Overall length: 4 inches

Max beam candlepower: 60,000

Beam spread to 10% MBCP: Horizontal 5, Vertical 3
