old car fan Posted March 24, 2012 Share Posted March 24, 2012 Just brought home a 1917 Mitchell 7 passenger touring.Would anyone have any information on how many quarts of oil it takes?None of our books show this info?It does have a float, but no gauge. Rust Rustler Posted March 26, 2012 Share Posted March 26, 2012 The 17 Mitchell Oil Guage is a mechanical oil indicator situated in the centre of the dash. It is a 5/8 inch nickled round disc engraved " oil " with a small rod protruding out the centre. If you have oil pressure the rod will extend revealing it's red colour. if you have no oil pressure ie. STOP NOW then the rod will remain hidden. Super High Tech. Steve Moskowitz Posted March 26, 2012 Share Posted March 26, 2012 We have a mint and complete Mitchell Junior owner's manual and a mint 1917 full line brochure. The owner's manual is very detailed, explains how the gauge works but does not list the capacity. These are available from our library as copies if you need them.
