Grandpa
There is an picture now on eBay that got my attention -1941 Buick Factory Photo | eBayThe ad states that it is a 1941 Buick. However, the car looks like a coachbuilt 1941 Cadillac by Brunn.Grandpa
Bleach
That is no doubt a Cadillac. Beautiful car. I wonder if it still exists.
West Peterson
A Brunn convertible sedan exists, and pretty much looks the same.
jscheib
The above all seem correct. It sure seems to be a Cadillac. The Buicks were much nicer!!! Seriously, the Buicks did not have fenders extending into the doors, from what I understand.John
West Peterson
You're right, the last Brunn Buick was built for 1941, and Buick fender sweeps went into the doors in 1942. Bleach
Cadiillac didn't use swept fenders into the door until '42 and those were pontoon like in appearance, which were not very attactive IMO. Luckily the 75 series didn't grow them. The Bruun car is very attractive design. Too bad Cadillac didn't adopt the style for the fender treatment. It would have made them much classier.I tried a google search for Bruun bodied Cadillacs but didn't get anything and the image search went totally fubar. Grandpa
The 1941 Cadillac shown has a 1941 Buick roof mounted manual antenna at the center of the "V" windshield, as used on the closed body Buicks of that year. The 1941 Cadillacs used a fender mounted vacuum actuated antenna.Grandpa
West Peterson
Basically, it looks like a Series 62 sedan, with customized fenders.
Grandpa
There are several deferrences between the production 1941 Cadillac Series 62 sedan and the car pictured, in addition to the front fenders - - -• No ornament grill on the side of the hood• No fender ornaments• Special rocker panel molding & special fender skirt molding• Chrome rear fender gravel shield• Trunk lid hinges moved from the outsie to the inside of the bodyGrandpa
Paul Dobbin
Could it be a 1942 Cadillac? Would explain why we don't all know exactly what it is. It has the 46-47 style tail light. My 2 cents worth.
Bleach
Actually the tail lights are '41. It looks like a heavily restyled 60S.
Grandpa
One of the attached images compares the 1941 60 Special with the unknown car. I would say that they are close, but not the same. The most noticeable difference is that the hood on the unknown car extends back to the windshield. The most likely starting point car for the restyled car is a 1942 Cadillac Series 62 sedan (image attached). Note that the hood extends much closer to the windshield.Grandpa

Grandpa
Is the 1942 is a 60 Special?Grandpa
Bleach
Yes the 42 you show is undoubtedly a 60S. It has all the extra trim not seen on the lesser models.Grandpa, I believe you are correct that the car in question is based on a 42 the comparisons you made between the two cars pointed out some obvious features only found on the 42 and newer body. Bleach
Grandpa, no doubt it's a 42 or later car. Your last comparison shows lots of obvious similarities.
Dave Mellor NJ
The 41 Caddy had chrome headlight bezels. I think 42-47s were painted.
Dynaflash8
Fisher would not make the elongated front fenders for Buick, so Harlow Curtice had them made in the Buick plant. This is in my 1971 Buick history in Antique Automobile, as told to me by Chief Engineer Charley Chayne. The 1941 Brunn Buicks did not have elongated fenders. Dynaflash8
Here is one of the three pictures I received from Hermann Brunn in 1969 or 1970 of the 1941 Brunn Buicks.
TG57Roadmaster
The car is "The Dutchess," custom-built for the Duke and Dutchess of Windsor.Learn more about it HERE.The Cadillac Database has info on it HERE; scroll down through the '41's and you'll find it.Very cool Cadillac!TG
Grandpa
Hi TG,Mystery solved! I am happy to see that the car is still around today and is being restored.Grandpa
Bleach
I knew it was a '41 all along! There was something about the barely visible grille and bumper details that kept reminding me of a '41.Glad to know the car still exists too. It has a very impressive pedigree.
