Dietrich Duesy: gloss or satin varnish on interior wood trim?

I'd vote for gloss, for being original, but personal preference would be more of a natural look with the satin finish.

I would think that the American designers were following the fit and finish of European cars at the time, just for reference, and most Rolls and such level cars I've seen had high gloss wood.

Now let the real experts chime in......

Hi Stephen,

I suspect a phone call to our friend Jeffo might get your the correct answer, but I think David Coco has already given it to you, except that personal preference would certainly have played into the original finish right from the get-go... the original owner. Or, more specific, the original person who ordered it (could have been ordered by a dealer).
