Steve Hagy
Hi!Attached is the fancy new Chief's car for the Alliance, Ohio Fire Department. The name can almost be read on the radiator. I believe the photo was taken in 1912. That's as much as I know. Any and all replies are welcome.Steve
nzcarnerd
Maybe a 1909 Chalmers-Detroit 40??
drwatson
It seems to be a 1912 Carter, as mentioned at the following historical web site:(scroll till you find "Chief Aungst").ELHistSoc -Fire Department
keiser31
It looks like the name "Cartercar" on the radiator.
nzcarnerd
The only problem with the Cartercar theory is that it was a friction drive car and did not have a conventional gearlever as the mystery car has. The picture of the Chalmers-Detroit 40 in The Standard Catalog looks just like our mystery car apart from the modifications at the back to carry passengers. The style is earlier than 1912. drwatson
I think NZ is right; ca. 1910 Chalmers-Detroit. Here's a 1910 photo of boxing champ Jack J. in his Chalmers-Detroit. Details are same as chief's car.
Leif Holmberg
More Pictures of Chalmers, looks very close. But 1910 is a smaller model. Leif in Sweden.
Steve Hagy
Many thanks for the replies. I scanned the photo at a very large dpi and it's now obvious that Chalmers is the correct make of this auto. I went with the year 1912 since that was the postmark date on the postcard where this image is. If anyone can narrow the year down, that would be nice. Thanks again,Steve
keiser31
Looks to be a 1910 by the look of the flat fenders.

Guest BobD735
I believe the Chief's car is a 1909 Chalmers Detroit Model D Forty Runabout. A photo of the '09 is depicted in Lief's submission.
